The 2024 edit of Lakme Fashion Week in Delhi is in full swing, giving us plenty of beauty inspo to lean on. While the clothes take centre stage at the biggest fashion event of the year, this season proved that the designers are as intentional with their hair & makeup looks as they are with clothes. As I look at the runway shows’ hair game, I wonder why most of us never try out cool updos that are more than a simple blow dry or a ponytail. Dominated by a plethora of noteworthy looks, here’s a roundup of all the trending hairstyles that can effortlessly be shaped into our everyday hairstyles.

Silky, Sultry & Straight Blow Dry

This undeniably classic look has made a bold comeback. Keep it ultra-polished just like these models who parade the runway with infectious confidence. As seen on day 4, Sobhita Dulipala channelled big main character energy for Punit Balana’s Johari Bazaar recreation as she strutted down with a sultry, straight hairdo. The straight hair obsession continued with Ujjwala Raut for Abhishek Sharma. This silky, straight blow dry works almost every time; you’ve to have the right products by your side. The key is to spot an excellent frizz control hair product to get the desired look. Start with the Tresemme Keratin range and move to styling products like Tresemme Keratin Smooth Serum that also works as a heat protectant.

Braid

If this season’s hair looks prove one thing, it’s that the more playful the style, the better. Go avant-garde and elevate your look by adding a sculptural element like a braided headband. Be open minded and explore a myriad of twists and turns with French braids, Fishtail braid, box braid, Dutch braid and more. Shefali Shah who turned showstopper for Abraham & Thakore, brought all the attention to her outfit with a tidy Rope braid.

Pro-tip: Braid it with embellishments that cascade down the length of your hair.

Adornments

As seen on the runway of Péro and Payal Pratap, among other designers, it’s all about incorporating your personality in each look via stunning hair adornments. Think oversized scrunchies, adorable ribbons, and cutesy bows. They’re all fair game. The iconic Punjabi parranda just got a modern makeover at Payal Singhal’s 25th year celebration show, it could be the perfect match with your ethnic wear this festive season. On day 4, we also saw Shilpa Shetty for Megha Bansal Bridal Couture with flowers adorning the hair.

Sea Siren

Borrowing an element from the mermaidcore trend that has been building momentum for seasons now, this look embodies the wet hair style of sirens and mermaids who’ve just stepped out of the ocean, daydreaming on rocks. Hints of it were seen at the FDCI Showcase Denim Edit, and R|Elan™️ x HUEMN collaboration that leaned into frayed denim. Taking from the fun and playfulness of the mystical world of mermaids, recreate floating hair to impart an editorial edge to your look.

Slick Back Hair

Keeping it smooth, pared by hair is practical and neat. From Bhumi Pednekar who walked for Richa Khemka in a sleek bun, to fashion editors and creative professionals off the runway who aced a neat hairdo, this hairstyle will take you from work to play without having to make changes. Designer Punit Balana’s Johari Bazaar recreation featured an array of contemporary and traditional Indian designs accompanied by a sleek hairdo.

The Shorter The Bob, The Better

The micro bob trend was spotted throughout all five days. From the FDCI Showcase Denim Edit with 11.11, Ashish N Soni, Countrymade, Dhruv Kapoor and KGL, to Marks & Spencer, ultra short bobs are everywhere. This striking bold cut offers a fresh modern look for spring/summer and is a sure shot head turner.

Low-Key Ponytails

Easy low ponies are the new messy bun. As one of the hairstyles we’ve all mastered over the years, I can perfect this down-to-earth knot even in my sleep. They’re better for your hairline and add a chic, effortless air to the overall look. If you’re a wavy hair girl like me who’s often troubled by frizzy strands flying out of every angle of your head, this will hold your hair in a delicate fashion.

From straight hair to playful waves, these looks are not just reserved for the runway. Fit them into your everyday routine or be experimental for a special night out. So, go ahead, have fun, and make these runway-inspired hair moments your own.
