How to exfoliate your face the right way

One of the best things you can do to remove dead skin cells, improve your complexion, clear your pores and accelerate cell turnover is exfoliate regularly. Now we all know what exfoliation is, but a lot of us don't know how to exfoliate. Yes, there is  a right way to do it.

The first step to exfoliating your face the right way is choosing the right tool. You can either choose an abrasive sponge or a scrub. I prefer scrubs, and often reach for the St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Face Scrub as it suits my oily skin.

How to use

Step 01: Squeeze a small amount of the scrub onto your fingers and massage over a damp face in small circular motions, applying very little pressure. Keep massaging for about 30 to 60 seconds.

Make sure to scrub the area around the chin, nose and forehead well, as those regions tend to have the maximum amount of dirt.

Step 02: Rinse thoroughly with warm water, followed by cold water to tighten your pores.

Step 03: Gently pat dry with a clean towel.

Step 04: Next, apply a moisturiser to preserve the softness and smoothness of your skin. This will ensure your skin stays hydrated, which is necessary for it to repair itself and protect itself from outside forces.

How to choose an exfoliator according to your skin type

1. Oily skin

For oily skin, which can get pretty sticky and greasy, it is important to use an exfoliator that removes excess oil and deep cleanses.

St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Face Scrub helps keep your skin oil-free, moisturised and healthy. For oily skin, you should exfoliate two to four times a week.

2. Dry skin

Dry skin tends to tan easily making it even drier. To get rid of dryness and dullness and get soft, plump skin, exfoliate with a gentle scrub like the Pond’s White Beauty Sun Dullness Removal Daily Facial Scrub that removes dead skin cells, dirt and impurities and brightens your skin.

Also, if you have a dry skin type, you need to exfoliate only once or twice a week.

3. Combination skin

Combination skin means an oily t-zone and dry cheeks. So double-duty exfoliation is what you need. The Lakme Blush & Glow Face Scrub With Strawberry Extracts helps remove excess sebum while moisturising and nourishing the dry areas. Win-win!
