Avoid sore feet this garba season

It’s garba season! This means your evenings are going to be filled with socialising, meeting friends, eating sweets, and of course, dancing. But playing garba every night is not just tiring, it’s also the catalyst for sore feet. These foot care tips will help you breeze through the dandiya season without your feet suffering much.

Here’s what you can do for your feet before heading out for the Navratri festivities…

Calluses aren’t harmful

Friction causes calluses and dancing barefoot is going to give you bumpy skin. Do not try and trim the calluses yourself. If they turn painful, then get them treated by a trained practitioner.

Wear comfortable shoes

You don’t want your feet to be sore even before the garba starts, do you? When you are going to dance in the evening, wear comfortable shoes for the rest of the day. A pair of orthotic shoes will keep your feet comfortable throughout the day.

Strengthen your feet

If you don’t dance regularly then you need to prep your feet for long hours of dancing. Improve your foot strength with basic exercises. Sit on the floor and stretch your legs out in front of you. Wrap a towel around your toes and gently pull it towards you. Hold for 10 seconds and release. This will strengthen your toes, which will bear most of your weight while dancing.

Now that you’re back home after the festivities, treat your feet with these tips to avoid soreness…

Essential oils spray

Wash your feet with warm water once you get home and pat dry. Mix a few drops of lavender oil and water and mist onto your feet. Lavender oil will not only help relieve soreness but also gives a relaxing feel.

Elevate your feet

Place a couple of pillows under your feet when you sleep. After being upright for so many hours keeping your feet elevated will help reduce any swelling and tiredness. It also helps curb sore feet.

Your feet can get particularly painful after 1-2 nights of dancing, especially if you’re a novice. A cold foot soak will help you relieve the aches. Fill a tub with water and put some ice cubes in it. Soak your feet in this cold water for 5-7 minutes.
