Quick fixes to using a foundation that is too dark for your skin

You’ve run out of foundation, and so, you buy one online. When it’s time to use it, you whip it out, and oh no! You realize it’s a shade or two darker than you need. However, there’s no need to panic— you don’t have to throw the entire bottle away. There are solutions to fix this problem. Read on to find out what they are.

1. Mix it with moisturizer

Moisturizer isn’t difficult to acquire— you’ll surely have a bottle or a tub of it at home! If you find that your foundation is a little too dark, all you need to do is take a little of it on the back of your hand, and then add a dab of moisturizer to it. Then, mix it up, check if the shade is all right, and apply it to your face. In case the foundation is still darker than you’d like, you could always add some more moisturizer to it.

2. Use finishing powder

4. Dilute it with primer

Finishing powder is usually lighter than your foundation, and so, is a great solution to make dark foundation lighter. Once you’ve applied your foundation, apply some finishing powder over it. By doing this, you’ll lighten the pigmentation of the foundation. However, be sure to only use finishing powder, and not bronzer or any other powder you’ve set aside for contouring.

3. Use it as a bronzer

If you’ve purchased a foundation that is a shade or two darker than you really need, you don’t have to use it as a foundation itself. You could use it as a bronzer as well! All you need to do is apply a powder foundation on your face, and the use the dark foundation on just your cheeks and jawline to sculpt your face.

4. Dilute it with primer

4. Dilute it with primer

Another great way of making use of dark foundation is by diluting it with primer. This will not only lighten the foundation, but will also help give you a dewy finish, and make the foundation last longer.

5. Mix it with a lighter foundation

If you have trouble finding the right shade of foundation, and only find shades that are either too dark, or too light, you could buy one of both, and mix them together for that perfect shade. To do this, pour all the lighter foundation in a bowl, and then slowly start adding the darker foundation to it, until you end up with the shade you want.

6. Use a corrector

You could try using a corrector that has been made especially for customizing foundation. A corrector could lighten your foundation, and also add an undertone to it.
