The right way to remove mascara if you have lash extensions

Eyelash extensions have honestly been a game-changer for girls with flat and sparse lashes. Apart from adding volume to your lashes and making your eyes look bigger, they also look sexy AF!

But the one problem that many women with eyelash extensions complain about is removing mascara without damaging the extensions. While it is not usually advised to wear mascara over your extensions, a gentle hand and an oil-free, washable formula can help you get away with it. Here’s everything you need to know on how to gently remove mascara without damaging your eyelash extensions…

Choose the right formula

Be extremely gentle

One of the most important things that you need to keep in mind before coating your extensions in mascara is its formula. Avoid mascaras with oil ‘cause when it comes in contact glue that holds your extensions, it can loosen the bond causing your extensions to fall out faster. So, what do you do? Opt for water-based formulas or go for mascaras that are specifically formulated for use on extensions.

Use an oil-free makeup remover

Be extremely gentle

Oil-free removers are your best bet when it comes to wiping off mascara from your eyelash extensions. As mentioned earlier, oil loosens the bond and makes your extensions more susceptible to breakage and fall out. It is best to use micellar water for this job, as they are a lot gentler compared to other types of makeup removers.

Use a clean spoolie

Be extremely gentle

Cotton pads and makeup removal wipes can be harsh on your lashes leading to tears and breakage. Instead of using your usual cotton pad, you can use a clean spoolie brush. Dip the spoolie brush in your makeup remover and brush it against your lashes a couple of times. This will help break down the mascara. Next, simply dab a clean tissue to get rid of the remover. Repeat the process if necessary.

Be extremely gentle

Remember, you have spent a bomb getting those eyelash extensions and you don’t want to ruin it with your carelessness. Therefore, be extremely gentle, both while applying and removing your mascara. Additionally, be careful to never use an eyelash curler because you could rip the extension out.
