Remembering Sridevi through her most iconic beauty looks on her 55th birthday

She would have turned 55 today. Known for her impeccable comic timing, Sridevi has left behind a vast legacy of work that we will keep re-visiting to take inspiration from and keep her memory alive. She dressed like a true Leo with big, bouffant hair and bold makeup with emphasis on the eyes.

She had an inimitable fashion sense and introduced us to trends long before they actually became ‘trends’. She was responsible for changing the perception of the quintessential Bollywood heroine’s aesthetics. She laid rest to the tight curls, big eyes with mascara and frilly dresses and brought in the more chic and utterly sensual simplicity of the chiffon saree paired with coming-of-age makeup. From her iconic coloured lenses in ‘Nagina’, to her chiffon sarees in ‘Chandni’, we showcase her most iconic looks that we will cherish for years to come.

Perhaps before anyone in Bollywood could even think of using coloured lenses, here she is, in 1986, wearing blue contact lenses in ‘Nagina’, which became as iconic as the eponymous dance of the movie.

We caught the beginnings of a trend that was to become huge in the coming years in the movie ‘Mr. India’ in 1987. The plain chiffon saree was seen on Sridevi with a matching bindi in this wildly popular movie.

Modern day terms for them are ‘acrylic’ and ‘vinyl’ clothing, but long before they started beeping on the fashion radar, Sridevi wore a transparent raincoat in ‘Chaalbaaz’ in 1989.

Who can forget the 1989 hit movie ‘Chandni’, with her trademark look of white chiffon, bindi and bangles?

She looked gorgeous in the 1991 movie, ‘Lamhe’, with flawless makeup and her signature bold eyes with tons of mascara.

1992 saw the release of the movie ‘Khuda Gawah’, and we saw the ultra-glamorous golden bridal look of Sridevi. Gold has now taken centre stage in makeup and fashion, but Sridevi wore it with élan way back in the 90s.

Bobs are all the rage now-a-days, right? Well, Sridevi rocked a faux blunt-bob in the 1993 movie ‘Gumrah’, and how!

Perpetually has OCD. Obsessive contouring disorder. Her idea of dressing to walk the dog includes cleanse-tone-moisturise-serum-primer-sunscreen-concealer-foundation-contour-powder-highlighter-bronzer-eyebrows-eyes. (Catches breath) She loves perfectly constructed sentences as much as she loves perfectly blended contours. Enough said.
