Look LIT this Diwali with these easy festive hairstyles

Diwali is round the corner and we can just about smell all the sweets and fireworks! Whether it is for the pooja or the taash party, we know you want to make a statement with your look. Give your friends and family something to remember with these simple yet effective Diwali hairstyles. It can be a hectic time and you do not want to spend a lot of time on your hair, we get it. This is where these trendy hairstyles will come in handy! They can be achieved in no time, with minimal effort and accessories, and yet look nuclear. It is also a good idea to keep your hair tied, as you do not want your hair to catch a stray cinder or get in the way of lighting diyas.

The messy side braid

This style is picture perfect, yet a little messy on the side and just right for those late night taash parties. Not as formal as a braid and a lot more fun, a simple and messy side braid is your quick-fix braid option for getting ready quickly for the big day. All you need is a little bit of practice, some product and just the right amount of messiness to get this one right.

Separate your hair into two sections in a deep side part. Again part your hair on the other side, creating a total of four sections. Starting with the extreme left section, cross it under and over the sections beside it in an alternating manner, as one would weave a wicker basket, continuing all the way down with each section in turn. Secure the end of the braid with a band and tease strands out to give it a bit of a messy look. Pair it with your favourite dress and you’re now ready to rock the Diwali evening look!

Mermaid waves

After all that Diwali prepping, there’s probably no better way to let everyone know that you’re ready to relax than to get your beachy waves look on. Elegant and simple, this look is perhaps the best one to get you ready for all the festivities in store this Diwali season.

Now, there are a number of ways for you to get them beachy waves, depending on your hair type. For example, those with thick hair, can use a curling iron, alternating between curling each lock towards and away from your head to get the desired wavy shape (do not forget to apply a heat protectant spray first). With curly or frizzy hair, however, using only some styling product to stretch out the curls should do the trick. Get decked up in your finest and you’ll be ready to flaunt your voluminous beachy waves all evening.

The side parted bun

It’d be difficult to find a more traditional hairstyle for Diwali festivities than a bun. However, buns tend to get boring and it is always nicer to add a bit more fun to the hairdo. There are a number of ways that you can wear a side bun, depending on how relaxed or formal you wish to appear. You could, for example, keep it casual and loose or go for a considerably more formal side chignon.

For the casual one, create a deep partition on one side of your hair. Then, gather all of your hair at the nape (you could even take out a few wisps of hair), and secure it with an elastic band. Hold a section of the loose hair between your thumb and your forefinger, twisting or back-combing it to the base of your hair, ensuring that the bun is on the side. Secure the bunched up sections using bobby pins. For the chignon, divide your ponytail into two sections and braid each one into the traditional three-part braid, fastening those using bands at the ends. Roll them up towards the base of your ponytail and secure them there using bobby pins.

The centre parted ponytail

This one’s probably the easiest and quickest to get done on the list, although just as elegant as the rest of them. And what’s the best part about the ponytail? It has been in fashion for the longest time now and doesn’t seem to be going out of fashion any time soon either. For getting the classic middle parted ponytail, all you need to do is to create a middle partition, grabbing all of your hair at the base of your head and securing it with a hair tie. Use a hair spray to set your ponytail in place and you’re all ready to get your festive game on. You could even add some bling to your hair, just as an extra measure of lighting up for the Diwali period.

If you feel that braids are not your jam, or you simply do not feel like braiding your hair, then this fancy hairstyle can be your hairdo for your Diwali party! It gives a braid-ish look to your hair without actually braiding them. Whether you’re wearing an Indo-western outfit or a saree, this hairstyle is super versatile! Moreover, you can customise it as per your choice.

To achieve this smooth look, you’ll need a straightener, a fancy hair accessory and a golden ribbon to embellish your hair. Straightening hair is not necessary, but doing so will give you a sleek hairdo, so we’d suggest you do that. If you still don’t want to do that, make sure you apply some serum to tame those flyaways. When that’s done, tie your hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck. Use a fancy hair accessory to add oomph to the look. Next, start braiding your ribbon into the ponytail until your whole ponytail is covered. You can add pearls to glamourise the look!

Planning to wear a saree this Diwali? Want to pair it with an elegant and no-fuss hairdo? Then there’s nothing better than a classic bun. Draw up your hair into a sleek bun and make it prettier by draping a gajra over it!

To achieve this look, first, straighten your hair so that your bun is superbly sleek. Next, make a middle parting in your hair and tame those flyaways using a styling gel if needed. Gather all of your hair into a tight ponytail and once that’s done, twist the ponytail into a bun. Attach the gajra with bobby pins.

If you’re one of those girls who love showing off their tresses by keeping them open, here’s a minimal braid style for you. This style will let you keep your hair open while adding a little twist to it, quite literally. Whether you have short or long hair, this hairstyle is versatile and will suit everyone. However, it looks best on those with naturally wavy hair. If you don’t have wavy hair, get beachy waves with a curling iron.

To get beachy waves, spray on a heat protectant on your locks first and then use a curling iron to get th desired waves. When you’re done, part your hair in the middle and start weaving simple braids on both sides of the hair from the front. Pin them up together in the middle, and add a fancy accessory there if you like. Tousle the open hair, and you’re all set.

Here is another bun hairstyle for those who love buns! Buns are super versatile and add elegance to all outfits – whether Indian wear or Western gowns. Moreover, buns are the best way to hide your bad hair days! This hairdo is a modification of a low bun, wherein you add an elegant twist by braiding a portion of your hair at the side. Opt for this hairstyle when you want to look pretty but with minimal effort.

To begin with, give your hair a middle parting and start braiding your hair on both sides in simple braids. Don’t braid the hair too thin. Once you’ve got two braids on each side of your head, bring them together at the nape of your neck and pin them up together. When that’s done, draw your hair into a low bun. That’s all!

After attending half a dozen Diwali parties, we understand if you start feeling lazy when it comes to dressing up. During those times, this hairstyle will come to your rescue. When you don’t feel like getting an elaborate hairdo, poker-straight hair must be your go-to style because it’s super elegant and glossy. Giving your hair a middle parting makes it look even better. After you’re done straightening your hair, apply a serum to add a layer of gloss to your mane and keep the hair poker straight!
