HOT OR COLD WATER—WHICH IS BETTER FOR YOUR HAIR?
Ever wondered if the temperature of the water you are bathing with affects the quality of your hair? Well, it does. Both hot and cold water have their pros and cons and they are both equally important too! Confused? Here are some tips that can help…

Hot water

Cold water

Pros:

Opens scalp pores

Warm water opens up the pores on your scalp which helps remove sweat, dirt and oil that may have accumulated inside the pores.

Opens hair cuticles

Warm water also opens up the hair cuticles, which allows moisture to enter your hair. Plus, open cuticles absorb oil and moisture much faster which makes your hair soft and shiny.

Cons:

Can make hair brittle

Prolonged or repeated exposure to hot water can make your hair dry because it can strip the hair of its natural oil and moisture.

Makes hair roots weak

Extremely hot water can weaken your hair roots and cause them to loosen or even uproot. Water should be lukewarm and never so hot that it scalds your hair or scalp.

Cold water

Cold water

Pros:

Sealing moisture

Cold water does the exact opposite of what hot water does. It causes the pores and cuticles to gently close thus ensuring moisture remains locked in and prevents frizzy hair.

Adding sheen and softness

Conditioning with cold water not only makes your hair extremely soft and shiny but also adds a glossy, well-defined texture to your hair.

Cons:

Reduces the volume of hair

For those of you with thin and fine hair, a cold water rinse can make your hair fall flat and seem sleek which basically reduces the volume. Cold water may then be an unfavourable option.

Apart from what temperature of water you use to wash your hair, it is essential that you give your hair the right kind of nourishment via a great shampoo and conditioner—one that won’t sap its moisture and at the same time give it a boost of nutrition that it is in need of. We swear by the Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner Range that has Oxyfusion ingredients that breathe life into dull and limp hair to add 95% more bounce and moisturisation too!
