For fair skin

If you have fair skin tones and want to know how to choose the right hair colour, you should know that lighter hair colours work perfectly for you. A light brown or blonde shades work well. Audrey says, “You can go for light hair colours like a blonde per say but if you are opting for dark shades, make sure it’s not the darkest shade like a black or dark brown as it might look like you are wearing a wig.”

BB recommends: Colours like light brown, dark blonde, honey-chestnut, even highlights with a combination of a blonde, any darker shade or caramel accentuate the skin colour.

For wheatish skin

For deep skin

Wheatish skin colour is quite the universal shade of skin. You can either go for really dark or light shades for your hair colour. “The best part about wheatish skin is that most hair colours suit this skin tone so you’re free to try out a varied number of shades when you go to the salon.”

BB recommends: Brown, dark brown, blonde and dark blonde. If you want to colour your hair blonde, global blonde is not suggested but panel highlights would be better.

For dusky skin

For deep skin

Those of you with dusky skin tone, Dusky skin tone people should go for light-reflecting highlights. Reflects are highlights, which have an iridescent shine when the sun hits the hair. “You must understand that hair colour or the colour of your roots needs to be darker so that when you highlight the ends of your hair, it complements the entire look,” says D’Souza. Also, the highlight should preferably be 2-3 shades lighter than your global hair colour so that there is no vast contrast.

BB recommends: Dark browns and browns with lighter reflect highlights would be idea options.

Getting blonde or lighter colours would definitely be a contrast and wouldn’t work well with the deep skin tone. “I would suggest not going really dark or really light with your hair colour. Most people forget that colour fades away. Getting a deeper darker global hair colour with a nice reflect of a honey-chestnut or toffee-caramel will look good once it opens up and settles into your hair,” explains Audrey. Make sure you don’t colour your hair too dark a shade as that will turn light in no time making your hair look unsightly.

BB recommends: Colours like burgundy, light brown, brown and red looks great on deep skin tone. Reflect highlights of red, brown or violet would also suit this skin tone.
