Expert approved skin care tips for brides with sensitive skin
When you’re the bride-to-be, you don’t want anything to ruin your big day. You start your wedding prep way in advance, book avenue and a photographer, send out invites and decide your wardrobe—all the things that can be set in place way before. However, there are a few things that have to be done closer to the wedding date such as an expert approved skincare routine that’ll ensure that the wedding stress doesn’t manifest itself as an unwanted pimple on your face during the most important weekend of your life (or certainly something that seems like it!) And if you’re one of those girls with super sensitive skin, getting that bridal glow while ensuring your skin stays unperturbed is the only thing on your mind! We spoke to skin expert and dermatologist Dr. Aparna Santhanam to tell us a few things about how to deal with sensitive skin while prepping for your wedding…

Get an early start

Take precaution during wedding week

Caring for sensitive skin is a lot like treading on eggshells—one wrong move can hurt a whole lot. That’s why it’s necessary to begin your bridal skin care regime 6 months before your wedding. “Brides with good skin are girls with good skin so it’s important to start your bridal skin care routine early. Sensitive skin is prone to allergies so a head start will give you plenty of time for trial and error”, says Dr. Aparna. An early start also reduces existing skin problems and evens out the skin in time for the wedding.

Treat it right

Sensitive skin needs plenty of TLC, therefore do not trust the first beauty product you find on shelf. “Be cautious when it comes to harsh products and ingredients since they can cause skin problems like redness, burning and rosacea. It is best to consult a dermatologist who will assess your face and recommend a skin care routine based on it”, advises Dr. Santhanam.

Soothe your skin

Take precaution during wedding week

“Sensitive skin needs to be soothed gently. To do so, only use cold water on your face and skip treatments like blackhead extraction”, says Dr. Santhanam. To cleanse your body, we recommend the St. Ives Smoothing Apricot Body Wash. It is enriched with apricot extract and natural exfoliants which can polish and moisturise the skin without any harshness whatsoever. Then moisturise your body with the Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe Body Lotion. It’s pure aloe extract and micro-droplets of Vaseline nourish skin to make it smooth and healthy.

Keep your guard up during the week leading up to your wedding. This means, no new products, no excess treatments and no facials during the final 3 days to the big day. “When finalising your makeup look, use your own beauty products, do a trial run a week prior and choose a simple, natural look”, concludes Dr. Santhanam. During the day, care for your sensitive skin well with the Lakmé Peach Milk Moisturiser. With SPF 24 and a number of hydrating agents, vitamins and anti-oxidants, it nourishes and protects skin gently. At night, choose the Lakmé Absolute Skin Gloss Overnight Mask. Its formula is enriched with mineral laden glacial water and hydrates skin intensely through the night.

Eat your way to radiant skin

It isn’t only the external factors that make skin healthy, internal factors matter too. Hence, it is essential to include the right foods to your diet to care for your sensitive skin type. “Coloured fruits and vegetables in shades of orange, red and yellow help control sensitivity. That’s why you must include plenty of carrots, beetroots and tomatoes to your meals”, recommends Dr. Aparna. It’s the answer to get that bridal glow from the inside out!
