Could these foods be giving you puffy eyes?
Puffy eyes and under eye bags are a problem we all face and we’re constantly trying to do something about it. No amount of makeup can hide puffy eyes and having them is really nerve-wracking. If you have puffy eyes, you know exactly what we’re talking about. You’re probably thinking that sleep deprivation is causing them, which isn’t false, but did you know that there are certain foods that could be causing and aggravating your puffy eyes? If you want to know how to get rid of puffy eyes, scroll down…

Tomatoes

Yes, the otherwise healthy and full-of-benefits tomato can cause puffy eyes. Tomatoes have ‘solanine’ (considered to be a poison) that can majorly contribute to swelling of certain areas of your body, which includes the eyes as it triggers skin inflammation. If you’re trying to get rid of your puffy eyes, reduce your tomato intake!

Salt

We Indians have this really bad habit of eating too much salt. We add it to our food and sometimes even take some on the side of the plate in case the food gets too bland. We also criticize the food if it’s short on salt. But let’s get a little scientific here; salt has sodium which mainly is known to absorb all the water (heard of water retention?) which can cause puffy eyes. Conclusion? Eat. Less. Salt.

Dairy

Dairy products also trigger inflammation in our bodies and hence, can cause puffy eyes. Dairy can also aggravate your puffy eyes if you’re lactose intolerant. A lot of people are lactose intolerant (when your body cannot digest lactose which is a natural sugar found in milk) and they’re unaware of it. If dairy has given you any sort of distress like gas, bloating etc. it’s advisable you get tested for lactose intolerance.

Alcohol

You must’ve noticed that after a night of drinking, you wake up to a face that’s puffed up. All those before-after pictures of alcoholics have one thing in common – slimmer faces! Just like your face, even the eyes get puffed up due to the toxins present in alcohol. It’s recommended to avoid it if you’re looking to reduce puffy eyes.

Caffeine and carbonated drinks

Even though coffee and tea are a need for many of us, caffeine is directly associated with causing puffy eyes. Well, what more to expect from something that helps you stay awake anyway, right? Carbonated drinks are extremely high in sugar which also causes puffy eyes.

Ageing is a process that begins around the age of 25-26, but we don’t see it as the changes are not very evident. However, if your eyes begin to puff up, chances are that these signs of ageing have started to pop up along with lack of sleep and unhealthy food habits. In addition to that, dry weather and dry skin can instantly aggravate the already existing problems. Investing in a good anti-ageing product gives you the extra care you need! We love the POND'S Age Miracle Firm & Lift Eye Contour Lifter which has InstantLift™ Complex that reduces fine lines and puffy eyes!
