When it comes to hair removal methods, some of the most common treatments women prefer are shaving, depilatory creams and waxing. But we’ve come across a simpler and sweeter (quite literally) alternative to these two – sugaring. Although it is gaining popularity now, sugaring is quite an ancient hair removal treatment and is definitely not a trend.

What is sugaring?

Sugaring may not be for you if:

In simple terms sugaring is a gel made of sugar, lemon and hot water to pull out hair from the roots. It is one the oldest and most gentle techniques that lasts longer than your traditional methods. Unlike regular waxing, sugaring only sticks to your hair and does not adhere to the skin, pulling only your hair even the thinnest ones. This method involves no chemicals and is supposedly less painful than the traditional method.

  • You are tired of shaving your skin every 3-4 days and want to avoid razor burns and ugly marks on your skin.
  • You have extremely sensitive skin that gets easily irritated or swells after using traditional hair removal methods.
  • You want a more natural and chemical free approach to hair removal.
  • You want affordable and long lasting results.
  • You wish to decrease the amount of hair and want thinner and less visible hair to grow back. Since, sugaring removes hair from the roots, it changes the hair follicle, so sometimes your hair may not even grow back!
  • You want to get rid of even the shortest hair.

  • You don’t have enough time on hand. It is a little time consuming and might not give the best results if done too quickly.
  • You are not willing to deal with stubble in between your sugaring sessions because it your hair needs to be at least 1/8-inch long.
  • You have stubborn and thick hair, you may not find the result too smooth as sugaring has mixed reviews.
