I would rather wear a simple black top and jeans, have minimal to no makeup on with silky, shiny and tamed tresses, than dress in the best designer clothes with flawless makeup and frizzy hair. To me, good hair is a good mood for real. Have you ever stopped and stared at someone flaunting their insanely gorgeous hair? It’s a different type of confidence, every girl would back me up on this. I’ve always had frizzy hair and for as long as I can remember, I’ve done everything I could to calm my frizz down. I’ve used hair straighteners since I was a teenager, I love a good blow dry because it makes my hair glossy and perfect. But beyond this, I’ve experimented with a lot of hair masks and serums for frizzy hair to finally figure out what works best. Even though we’re all looking like Monica Geller from that episode on F.R.I.E.N.D.S (you know which one), because hello humidity; I believe this is the best time to give some extra love to your hair.

While shampoo and conditioner are indispensable, there’s more to hair care routine than just this. To maintain lustrous locks, the key is to know which product to use and when. Styling becomes a prerequisite for frizzy hair. So, a couple of extra steps go a long way. Does a serum go in before or after styling? How important is it to use a heat protectant? We’ve narrowed down a weekly hair care routine that takes you step-by-step to achieving Rapunzel-like hair. Feel free to add it to your ‘everything shower’ hair routine.

Step 1: Pre-Shampoo Care

We get it from our Indian moms – a good champi is called-for before stepping into a hair wash shower. Some prefer to do it overnight, while it’s also completely acceptable to oil and massage the scalp, keep it for 2-3 hours and then wash it off. Harnessing the timeless power of Ayurveda, go for a hair oil that contains pure herbs. Indulekha Bhringha Oil is crafted using centuries-old wisdom. Each herb is cultivated in the lushness of Kerala and handpicked by experts before maturing in sunlight for seven days. It contains Bhringraj, Amla, and Vatadha Svetakutajam, in addition to almonds, brahmi and 11 precious herbs.

However, when you’ve been physically active playing sports or simply haven’t washed your hair in a long time, there’s a chance your hair is already oily, and your scalp can get itchy if you oil it further. You might lose extra strands as well in the process of oiling. So, remember to follow this step on a clean scalp.

Step 2: Wash Hair

Once you get into the shower, make sure you rinse out the oil. One of the reasons for frizz could be damage and dryness. Dove Intense Repair Shampoo is rich in keratin actives that help to repair hair damage with every use. It is infused with sunflower seed oil and glycerin, promoting healthy hair growth. For soft and glossy finish, you can also use Sunsilk Nourishing Soft & Smooth Shampoo. It contains egg protein that deeply cleanses and moisturises the hair, along with almond oil and vitamin C that help to improve the overall hair texture. You can even switch between the two, allowing your hair to get the best of both shampoos.

Step 3: Deep Condition: Hair Mask For Frizzy Hair

After the shampoo, it’s important to inject moisture back into your strands. To prevent tangling and frizz, go for Dove Beautiful Curls Deep Moisture Miracle Hair Mask. It’s perfect for those who have curly or wavy hair. This lightweight hair mask is enriched with glycerin, coconut oil, and shea butter to nourish and moisturise your hair, making it soft and manageable. For dull hair, use Dove 10 in 1 Shine Revive Treatment Hair Mask. It’s infused with Vitamins B6, C & E, working as a smoothing formula for dull, frizzy hair.

Step 4: Prep Hair Before Styling

To me, this is an incredibly substantial step. There is no point of deeply nourishing your locks if you’re going to put them through extreme heat right after. Always use a heat protectant. Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Serum is not only a heat protectant; it also controls frizz and adds shine to give your luscious locks. Infused with distilled pine oil, argan oil and castor oil, apply it to damp hair. Then style as usual.

Step 5: Post-Styling: Hair Serum For Frizzy Hair

A lot of hair serums can be used both before and after styling. After I style my hair, I like to use a product that would add further shine to my hair and do away with the leftover frizziness. Dove All Day Nourish + UV protect Hair serum contains bio-protein care, oils of olive, almond, apricot, and a UV shield to replenish, soften, and protect the hair for up to 48 hours. I think hair UV protection is so underrated and it’s about time that just as we care for our skin, we start layering our hair as well. Also, this one is a lightweight serum that works beautifully with dry hair to tame frizz instantly and reduce tangles. It works as a heat protectant when used with styling tools up to 230 degrees Celsius heat. What else does a girl need?!
