As we turn the page towards a new year, here’s a quick recap of all the beauty trends in 2024 that paved the way for what’s on the horizon for 2025. This past year struck a great balance between minimalism and bold, expressive glamour but 2025 is about to shake things up. Spoiler: It’s not what you expected!

Noteworthy beauty trends we saw in 2024:

1. Skin Minimalism or Quiet Luxury in Beauty

Round face shape

2024 was all about doing more with less, beauty that felt effortless, attainable and chic. We championed clean, simplified beauty routines, picked multi-tasking skincare and light, dewy makeup that let our real skin shine through.

2. Blush Frenzy & Blush Blindness

Blush-Blindness

If there was one category that defined the year, it was blush. We saw blushes in every format—cream, powder, mousse, liquid and even serums. With so many options, most of us went into overdrive, searching for the one—perfect shade, perfect formula. We collectively used too much blush and even coined a term for our mishaps: blush blindness. Safe to say that blush is now a staple in all beauty lovers' makeup kits.

3. Y2K Nostalgia or Nightmare?

y2k

Nostalgia hit hard this year with the revival of early-2000s makeup and fashion trends. For those bold enough to embrace Y2K mania, 2024 was a playground of early-2000s chaos. Frosty metallic eyeshadows, glitter mascaras, and holographic accents—you either loved the comeback or steered clear. But for some (including me), it was a reminder that not every throwback needs a repeat performance.

4. Body Care Got a Glow-Up

Body-care

Body care moved up the ranks in all our routines. It’s no longer an afterthought. We moved away from generic products to customised, elegantly formulated products based on skin types and concerns. Active-rich formulations emerged to address common concerns like body acne, dull skin, keratosis pilaris, ageing and even tanning. The plethora of options have transformed body care from a mundane chore into a luxurious self-care ritual.

5. Men (Finally) Joined the Beauty Club

Body-care

Beauty officially became gender-neutral in 2024. With more men embracing skincare and makeup, we saw a spike in the number of male influencers normalising having beauty routines. The good news? The rest of the men—old and young—tuned in and took notes. If your parents or partners started wearing SPF this year, consider it a win. If not, you still have some time.

6. 2024 Buzzwords: Hair Gloss, Hair Fall

Body-care

The haircare industry finally gave our scalps the attention they deserve. Scalp health became non-negotiable, with scalp serums and treatments flooding the market. Rosemary oil, hair-growth hacks, and hair-growth serums took centre stage. But the real ‘IT girls’ were looking westward, obsessing over hair gloss or shine-enhancing products. As our obsession with glass skin reduced, our obsession with glass hair grew stronger.

7. Vanilla Was the ‘IT Girl’

Body-care

Sweet, warm, and comforting—vanilla was the reigning fragrance note of 2024. Vanilla was no longer the girl next door, vanilla became a lifestyle. From body mists, perfumes, body care and makeup this year was all about smelling as delicious as you look.

8. Lip Liners & Glosses Are Back & They’re Better

Body-care

2024 was a renaissance for lip liners and lip glosses. Lip liner formulations got creamier, glosses got non-sticky and some even became transferproof. Lip combos became the ultimate beauty hack, and if you didn’t add at least one of these to your routine, did you even do beauty this year?

9. Cherry Red Aesthetic

Cherry red stole the spotlight in 2024 dominating everything from makeup to fashion and even home decor. Bold, vibrant, and unmistakably chic, this hue cemented itself as a seasonal favorite, proving that red really can be neutral when done right./p>

10. Beauty Made Wearable

Body-care

Beauty met fashion this year, or should I say fun met functional? The fashion industry turned our mundane beauty products into functional fashion must-haves, seamlessly blending everyday beauty with everyday life. Think lip balm phone cases, lip gloss bag charms. The line between beauty and accessories was truly blurred, proving that products can be functional, stylish, and viral all at once.

The Beauty Forecast for 2025: Bigger, Better, and Bolder

While 2024 struck a balance between minimalism and nostalgia, 2025 is shaping up to be a year full of surprises. Think of polarising contrasts: minimalist meets full-blown boho maximalist. Sounds chaotic? It probably will be.

1. Mocha Mousse Is Here To Stay

Body-care

Minimalists, take note: this is your shade. Pantone’s 2025 colour of the year, Mocha Mousse, is a warm, velvety brown that oozes calm, luxury, and versatility. From soft brown smokey eyes to nude mocha lips and rosy brown blushes, this hue will dominate beauty, fashion, and even interior decor.

2. Go Bold: Think Colour, Texture, & Chaos

Body-care

For those who love maximalism, 2025 will be your year. Don’t shy away from layering colours, textures or prints this year. Expect bright purples, holographic makeup, and ethereal mermaid-inspired hues to take over your makeup mood boards. Create bold, expressive looks with icy-blue, silver and jewel-tones. More is truly more. Think doe eyes, siren eyes but colourful! Go ahead, wear the colourful chaos that’s in your mind.

3. Glass Skin 2.0

Body-care

The glass skin trend is here to stay but dewy products are getting smarter. You can achieve that glass skin you’ve been dreaming of without the excessive layering or the stickiness. Think luminous skin tints and genius skincare-makeup hybrids.

4. You Can Never Have Enough Lipsticks

Body-care

Lips will remain the beauty industry’s obsession in 2025. Lip products are about to get better, if that’s even possible. Let’s normalise wearing lipstick to the gym, shall we? If you’re debating another lip purchase, take this as your sign to add that trending lipstick to cart.

5. Beauty That Works Overtime

Body-care

2025 is the year you can demand smart beauty. Skincare infused makeup continues to reign supreme. Think foundations packed with peptides, blushes infused with antioxidants, and lip products that act like lip care.

6. Natural, Lived-In Hair

Body-care

Forget about your high-maintenance hair colour in 2025. The hair colour palette will lean towards softer, more natural hues. Think subtle highlights that blend in with your hair, warm and cool browns, and deep mahogany hues. The hair goal is to have the shiniest, understated hair that feels timeless and sophisticated.

7. AI Everywhere

Body-care

Wellness is about to get a tech-makeover. Expect smarter and more personalized routines, AI-powered wearables, at-home devices, and anti-ageing therapies like NAD infusions and red-light treatments will continue to gain popularity. Immersive wellness spaces are on the rise and will redefine a ‘spa-day’. Think holistic escapes that combine health, beauty, and mental well-being.

8. Bridal Beauty For Every Bride

Body-care

Unlike 2024’s forced minimalism, 2025 brides have many options to choose from. Given the polar opposite aesthetics that will dominate the fashion and beauty trends this year, there’s something for every kind of bride. For those who want to play it safe, let mocha mousse and cherry red lead the way.

Whether you lean towards quiet luxury or maximalist expression, 2025 promises to be bigger, brighter and better.
