Rosemary essential oil stimulates blood circulation in the scalp, which helps promote hair growth. It also detoxifies the scalp and restores lost hair pigment. Regular use of this herb will also keep scalp issues such as dandruff and infections at bay.

To use: Mix 10-15 drops of rosemary essential oil with two to three tablespoons of a carrier oil of your choice. Massage this blend into your scalp for 10 minutes, allow it to stay for 30 minutes and then rinse with a mild shampoo.

 

Ginseng

Used in hair care products for centuries, ginseng is a powerful herb that increases the dermal cells on the scalp, which in turn helps strengthen the hair follicles and roots. This encourages the growth of new cells and prevents hair thinning.

To use: Massage ginseng-infused oil directly onto your scalp and work all the way to the ends. Allow it to stay for at least 30 minutes before washing with a mild shampoo.

 

Neem

Known for its antibacterial properties, neem is an excellent herb to heal itchy and dandruff-prone scalps. When applied topically, it improves blood circulation and tackles problems like hair thinning and premature greying.

To use: Boil neem leaves in two cups of water for about 10 minutes. Once it cools down, transfer into a jug. Wash your hair as you normally do and pour the water through your hair as the last rinse.

To use: Boil two tablespoons of coconut oil with a handful of curry leaves in a saucepan until the leaves change colour to brown. Once it cools down massage on your roots and ends and leave for about 30 minutes before washing.

Ginger improves blood circulation in the scalp and stimulates the growth of new hair follicles. The many vitamins, minerals and fatty acids in this herb are beneficial for thin hair as they contribute to strengthening the roots.

To use: Extract the juice of an inch of grated ginger root using a muslin cloth. Mix one teaspoon of sesame oil to this juice and massage into your scalp. Wait for 30 minutes before washing with a mild shampoo.
